This week’s entry for “Mixtape Mondays” is called “Eclectism 2.5″ by DJ Justin Hoffman & DJ 19Sixty. The last time these guys were featured on Mixtape Mondays was their first collaboration entitled “Eclectism“. This time around, Justin Hoffman & 19Sixty cover it all & go even deeper into every genre of music, from R&B, Dance, Pop & New Wave. Many thanks to DJ Justin Hoffman & DJ 19Sixty for providing us with this week’s entry. Enjoy Knyewtrons…Neva!
There isn’t a day at the shop when people aren’t asking us for new KNYEW tees. In the past, we’ve released a few t-shirts and tanks sporadically throughout the year but we’ve never put together an actual collection. Next month, on Friday, March 16th we’ll be releasing our first Spring Capsule Collection. This line will include t-shirts, baseball tees, raglan crewnecks & shorts as well. I originally planned on releasing this collection in February but it had to be pushed back a month due to screen printing delays. I’ll be posting more sneak peeks & previews of this upcoming collection in the next couple of weeks before the release. Stay tuned Knyewtrons…Crooked signing out!

Valentine’s Day isn’t a time for red roses, heart shaped balloons & chocolates for the KNYEW Crew. When V-Day hits in Las Vegas, it means M.A.G.I.C. has invaded the city. M.A.G.I.C. is an international trade show where buyers & sellers from every market of the retail fashion industry gather to showcase upcoming collections, place orders & acquire new brands & business. We usually spend the day “walking the show”, taking meetings with sellers & scouring the convention halls, looking for new brands for the shop. We made our first stop at PROJECT…

We ran in to our boy Rex from Acrylick, fellow foodie & Pho connoisseur DJ Five & 1/2 of The Captains of Industry, DJ Graham Funke’.

Five led us to Project Wooster, a special showcase at PROJECT highlighting upcoming pieces from selected brands handpicked specifically by Nick Wooster. Hence the name…Project Wooster.

You’re probably wondering…”Who is Nick Wooster?” & “why does he have his own showcase?” Well, Nick Wooster is the fashion director for the online powerhouse Gilt & the former director for retail heavy weights Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman. He’s all over the internet, impeccably dressed & recognized for his signature white beard, showcased on fashion blogs & websites, giving his top 10 trends for the year & predictions for next seasons new looks. Without question, people care about what Nick Wooster has to say. Hence…give the man his own showcase!

One thing was obvious at the Project Wooster showcase, it’s all about Camo in 2012.

Camo everything! Camo blazers, camo wintercoats, camo kimonos, camo footwear, bags & accessories.

Even different hybrids of camo were integrated together like woodland Camo, jungle camo, desert camo & digital camo.

Assorted patterns & fabrics were also blended together like camo & plaid, camo & gingham, camo & chambray, camo & polkadot…

Just when we thought we reached our camo plateau, we had to rest our asses on a camo sofa…taking a load off, camo style. Gotta love this sofa though! Neva wanted to get one for his Black Panda lair lol.

Whether it’s camo, animal print, tribal patterns or even paisley, patterns are a big trend this year.

Absolutely loved these duck boots featured at Project Wooster. Gonna try & bring some duck boot flavor to KNYEW in the Fall season this year. Hope you ready Vegas…

New Balance for Japan was a refreshing splash of color at Project Wooster & every colorway looked fuckin’ dope. Bumped into our homie Ajay Bouri, owner of Feature LV, & he just got off the phone with his sales rep at New Balance requesting these kicks for his shop. Stay tuned to our neighbors Feature LV for more updates on this delivery!

After we left Project Wooster, we made our way to the ILLEST suite in Mandalay Bay where our boy Todd Shimabuku was having private meetings outside the convention halls. We were all stunned by this brunette bombshell showing off her goodies at the ILLEST suite…

The hot brunette in the tight black dress, getting all the attention from the guys, was this custom-made ILLEST x Phase 5 Tactical AR15 pistol. Think it was priced at around $5k (don’t quote me) & only 10 pieces were made. If you’re gonna murk…murk in style (eat your heart out Nick Wooster).

Unsure on how to pose for the camera, ILLEST designer Reggie Sylvester pretended to be hard at work on his Macbook as I snapped pictures of the young artist. Relax homie…take another swig of that Becks!

After a couple brewskis & a foot massage at the ILLEST suite (Todd Shimabuku has magical hands), we headed back to M.A.G.I.C. & ventured to the land of S.L.A.T.E.

Team rider for FUCT, Kevin Gates, kindly posing for the camera in-between rides.

Terry Kennedy aka T.K. with KNYEW”s own DJ Neva & our boy Jay from PeepFlow at the Fly Society booth.

KNYEW”s own Jazmyn Le aka Mama Knyewtron taking care of bidness with Justin from Good Wood NYC. Collabos are in the works…be on the look out Knyewtrons!

Always good to see our Las Vegas Streetwear fam Low & Nick Sakai from CRSVR LV.

One of the many (and I mean many!) new brands we have coming into the shop this year is Guns Germs $teal.

We finally got to meet the girls behind Guns Germs $teal, Philippa & Smiley. Congrats ladies on your first M.A.G.I.C.

Here’s some of the great accessories coming in from Guns Germs $teal. All handcrafted & made with vintage/recycled materials & fabrics.

If you consider yourself a true sneakerhead, you’ve got to know about Jason Markk. This is the man who’s responsible for keeping your favorite kicks squeeky clean & ready to wear. The scumbag to the right of Jason Markk is my Skam Fam DJ Skratchy, a great DJ but an absolutely degenerete (not really…but kind of).

Jason Markk was showing us his new exclusive Jason Markk x DJ Vice Jet Set Kit debuting at CRSVR LV later that day. Enclosing the cleaning kit inside a Shure DJ needle case was pretty brilliant…love the packaging.

Another week of M.A.G.I.C. came & went & we’re all a ‘lil more damaged, as usual, from the long days & even longer nights. There’s some amazing deliveries coming in this year from our brands, new & old, & 2012 will definitely be a standout year for streetwear. It’s obvious that this industry we embarked in over 4 years ago has grown into a major movement & it’s an exciting time for all of us. Until next time Knyewtrons…Crooked signing out!

A few weeks ago, I flew overseas to Singapore for a few DJ gigs. Having spent most of my first day stuffing my face with noodles & rice cakes (see flicks from my first day here), I decided to post these pics I took from my second day in Singapore at their shopping district on Orchard Rd.

This area of the city is insanely overwhelming with blocks & blocks of shopping centers & malls. Massive 4 story buildings for Chanel, Louis Vuitton & Gucci with herds of people from China, Japan, Europe & the US parading the streets with bags & bags of over excess spending. One thing is pretty clear…there’s no fucking recession goin’ on here.

As I was wandering along Ochard Rd (lost again), I stumbled onto the SG Bape Store. Who else would have a Star Wars wrap on their escalator?

Notice the Asian guy carrying the Leftfoot shopping bag? That’ll be one of my other stops later on…

There’s no doubt about it, the SG Bape Store is crack. Even though the nice Singapore mami at the register told me “no pictures”, I took a few flicks for all you Knyewtrons anyways…go fuck a duck lady.

It’s been almost 10 years since my last meal at Mcdonald’s, minus that drunk morning in DC when I tried the Mcgriddle for the very first time (wowzers!). I fell off the Mickey Dee’s wagon once again when I saw this sign for their Prosperity Burger & Twister fries, Ronald Mcdonald’s devilish way of commemorating the Chinese New Year in Asia.

Chicken Prosperity Burger with Twister Fries, an Orange Spritzer & Ketchup & Sriracha on the side. Pretty damn tasty.

After my overseas fastfood fix, I finally made it to Far East Plaza, a massive shopping center housing over 200 different retail shops. The boutiques are tightly packed & the store spaces are usual tiny, some as small as 100 sq ft.

One of the more impressive sneaker shops in Far East Plaza was Warped (Nikes, Jordans, Vans, Adidas, Puma, Kiks Tyo).

This was one of the larger store spaces with a 2nd room in the back holding more apparel from one of my favorite brands Kiks Tyo from Japan.

I’m a big fan of Kiks Tyo‘s tees & I’m working on getting them on our racks at KNYEW. Be on the look out for Kiks Tyo sometime this year, hopefully by late Summer or early Fall. Maybe even sooner if I can help it…

Another sneaker shop I stopped by at the Far East Plaza was Leftfoot (Converse, Vans, Nike, Adidas, PF Flyers, Dr. Martens).

The guys managing Leftfoot were super cool & even gave me a list of some other shops I should hit up while I was in Singapore.

Big shout to the homie Charlie from Leftfoot. Gotta love this guy lol…

My last stop in Far East Plaza was at Black Chamber (Huf, Undefeated, The Hundreds, Stussy). The buildout was super clean & I loved the dark walnut finish on the floors & shelving.

I dropped off a few KNYEW & Crooked stickers for the homie at Black Chamber & copped a Stussy belt (score!).

After almost 6 hours on Orchard Rd, I had to retreat back to the hotel & get some rest before my gig at Pangaea. There’s still a bunch of shops I never had a chance to check like Surrender/Ambush & Limited Edt who actually has 4 locations in the city. I guess there’s always next time…see you soon Singapore! Crooked signing out!

This week’s entry for “Mixtape Mondays” is called “The Lover In You” by New York’s own DJ Klutch. In honor of Valentine’s Day last week, Klutch put together a mix of classic and current baby making slow jams. Throughout out this mix you can hear some well known DJ’s give their interpretation of what Valentine’s Day means to them. Many thanks to the homie DJ Klutch for providing us with this week’s entry. Enjoy Knyewtrons….Neva!
